Long before passports, one Indian print had already travelled the world. This duffle carries it again.

In the 1600s, merchant ships left India's coasts loaded with pepper, indigo — and bolts of cotton covered in flowering vines. Europe had never seen anything like it: colours that didn't wash out, blossoms that climbed and curled across ivory cloth. They called it chintz, from the Hindi chheent — "spattered with colour".

It became an obsession. Ladies in London and Paris wanted it on their gowns, their curtains, their bedcovers. Local weavers panicked. France banned Indian printed cottons outright in 1686, and the ban held for over seventy years. England passed laws of its own. People wore it anyway — smuggled, hidden, worth the risk.

Back home in Rajasthan, the printers of Sanganer had been perfecting this look all along: delicate floral sprays on a pale ground, madder-red blooms, fine dark outlines, leaves that never quite stop moving.

This duffle borrows that same vocabulary. Rust-red flowers and inky trailing vines over a soft ivory base, framed with dark brown handles and piping. It's the print that once crossed oceans in a ship's hold — now sized for an overhead bin.

Take it on the weekend trip, the wedding in another city, the overnight train home. Some prints are made to stay put. This one was always meant to leave.
