Handcrafted Backpacks β Convertibles, Jute Laptop, Jungle Book Quilted | The House of RajPadmini
Heritage on your shoulder.
Not another nylon brick.
Nine handcrafted cotton, jute, and hemp backpacks from our Jaipur studio. The convertible boho-sling. The jute laptop bag that fits your MacBook. The Jungle Book quilted set that photographs itself. From βΉ1,199.
Read the Collection βA backpack that looks like jewellery. Carries like a workhorse.
Mass-market backpacks are built for warehouses, not wardrobes. They look like everyone else's, and slump on the floor at the cafΓ© like a deflated balloon. Ours are hand-quilted, hand-stitched, and hand-dyed in Jaipur β by women who've been doing this for generations. The result carries your 14-inch MacBook and doubles as your evening bag.
Backpack β Sling in 4 Seconds
Three of our editions convert without a single zip or buckle. Backpack for the metro. Sling at brunch. One bag, two moods.
Fits your 14" MacBook
The Aavran Jute and Heritage Elephant both hold a 14-inch laptop, charger, notebook, and water bottle β with padded straps that don't dig in.
Hand-Quilted, Not Mass-Printed
Every Jungle Book and Heritage Keeper is quilted and block-printed by hand. Texture you can feel. Prints you won't see on Amazon.
Cotton, Jute, Hemp β Not Plastic
Breathable natural fibres. No synthetic lining, no microplastic shedding. Sustainable without the smug.
Nine backpacks. Four chapters. One promise β every bag carries your day and looks like jewellery doing it.

The Convertibles
Two bags in one. Without the ugly zip-off. The signature of the collection.

The elephant-motif convertible.
Backpack on the metro at 9. Sling at brunch at 12. Backpack again for the office at 2. The Heritage Elephant switches modes in four seconds β no zips, no detaching, no fiddling. Hand-embroidered elephant motif in the Gajraj tradition. Padded comfort straps. Magnetic flap closure. Fits a 14-inch laptop plus a water bottle plus the journal you keep meaning to write in. Available in black and warm brown.
The messenger that unfolds into a backpack.
The Harkara β named for the palace runners who once carried messages across Rajputana β is the convertible for anyone who doesn't want to spend βΉ2,000+ on their first two-in-one. Messenger flap when you want your bag to look tailored. Backpack straps when you want your hands free. Multicolour block-printed cotton that gets a compliment every third day. The best convertible backpack under βΉ1,500 on the Indian internet, and we'll happily die on that hill.

The Everyday Workhorses
Jute and hemp backpacks for the office days, the airport days, the days where the bag has to do everything.

The jute laptop bag that doesn't look like a laptop bag.
Corporate laptop backpacks look like corporate laptop backpacks β black nylon, branded, sad. The Aavran is what you carry when you want your MacBook protected and your outfit to still work. Geometric block-printed white jute. Padded 14-inch laptop sleeve inside. Structured shape that doesn't slump when you set it down at the cafΓ©. Priced under βΉ1,200 because handcrafted shouldn't have to cost designer.
Hemp. As in the fibre, not the vibe.
Hemp is the fibre that gets stronger the more you use it β the opposite of every synthetic backpack you've owned. Natural undyed hemp canvas, structured build, cotton lining, room for a laptop and everything you carry around it. The neutral that goes with every outfit and every setting from work commute to weekend market. Ages beautifully, softens with use, doesn't shred microplastics into the ocean while doing it.

The Jungle Book Edition
Hand-quilted cotton backpacks that photograph themselves. Six colourways. Pinterest-ready without trying.

Blue animal print. The one everyone messages you about.
Blue is the colourway that gets the DMs β cool-toned, quietly striking, deeply photograph-able, works with both denim and cottons. Hand-quilted three-layer cotton with the signature Jungle Book animal print, diamond-stitched by hand. Structured shape that doesn't sag. Light enough to forget you're wearing it. The bag your friend will ask about at the second coffee.
Pink floral. Soft, romantic, photo-ready.
The pink floral is what you carry to the brunch, the weekend market, the friend's roka. Hand-quilted soft pink cotton with a botanical block print you won't find anywhere else. Structured enough to carry your day. Feminine without being fussy. The bag that makes the outfit finished instead of the outfit trying to finish itself.

Four more colourways to browse.
The Compact & Trail
For the days you're carrying just enough. And the days you're going a bit further.

The mini jute for the minimalists.
Some days you don't need a whole backpack. You need a wallet, a phone, a pair of sunglasses, and something that doesn't look like a fanny pack. The Himalayan Trailblazer is that bag β compact jute build, broad comfort belt, hand-detailed. Small enough for the metro commute, structured enough to look intentional, big enough for the essentials plus a paperback. The under-1500 daily carry.
The drawstring for the day you keep saying you'll go on.
The Trekking Paradise is the bag for the weekend trip you've been meaning to take β the Neora Valley hike, the Kalsubai sunrise, the Rishikesh weekend. Black canvas, hand-detailed elephant print, drawstring closure that opens wide for stuffing in a jacket and closes tight for the actual walk. Light on the shoulders, structured enough to protect a camera, priced so a bag isn't the reason you don't go.

Built by a small studio in Jaipur. Carried by 4,000+ Indian women.
A House of RajPadmini backpack is built differently β because it's built by hand. The cotton is quilted in three layers and diamond-stitched. The jute is spun and woven locally. The hemp is undyed and left to age. And the prints β every one of them β are block-printed by artisans in our Jaipur studio, in dye lots small enough that yours isn't on three other girls' Instagram this week.
Each backpack passes through six pairs of artisan hands before it ships. The math is honest: a real handcrafted backpack should cost what these cost, and last longer than anything imported. That's the bargain.
Before you order
Will it actually fit my laptop?
The Aavran Jute and Heritage Elephant Convertible both hold up to a 14-inch laptop (MacBook Pro 14 included). For 13-inch laptops, every backpack in this collection works.
How does the convertible feature actually work?
The shoulder straps snap together via an adjustable buckle. Snapped, it's a single-strap sling. Unsnapped, it's a two-strap backpack. Four seconds either way, and no zippers ever detach β the bag never falls apart on you mid-transition.
Are the straps comfortable for a full day?
Every backpack has padded shoulder straps with breathable cotton lining. Tested for 8 to 10 hours of wear by women who carry too much (we relate). The Aavran and Heritage Elephant have the widest padding for laptop days.
Is handcrafted really as durable as a Wildcraft?
Different kind of durability. Heritage cotton, jute, and hemp are built to age gracefully β think canvas tote that gets softer, not nylon shell that eventually cracks. Reinforced stitching, double-layer base. We replace any manufacturing defect within 7 days, no questions.
Will the prints fade?
All prints are colour-fixed using traditional Jaipur block-printing techniques β the same technique behind textiles that have lasted 200 years in Rajasthani households. Spot clean with a damp cloth. Don't machine wash the quilted styles.
